Kapha dosha

Kapha dosha represents earth and water element in body.Water is the main constituent of kapha and this kapha is responsible physiologically for biological strength and natural tissue resistance in the body; gives biological strength, vigor and stability; supports memory retention, gives energy to the heart and lungs and maintains the immunity.The chest is the main seat(location) of kapha dosha in Body.


 Psychologically kapha is responsible for emotions of attachment, greed and long standing envey, it is also expressed in tendencies toward calmness, forgiveness and love.

 1.First let's know that
When Kapha Dosha aggravates more,



A)Depending on the time of day and night

 Mornning 7am -11pm and Evening 7pm-11Pm are the natural  time of kapha aggravation.

B)Kapha dosha naturally is more aggravated during childhood 


C) After I take of meals Kapha dosha increases in the body just after taking meals and stay aggravated till approx 1.5 hours.,so after meals it is suggested to lay down for half -one hour.

 2. Reasons of Kapha  imbalance


-Day sleep aggravates kapha, so in Ayurveda only summer time day long sleep is allowed for good health.(every day laying down for half hour after lunch is called as Vam kukshi, it is not a long sleep).


-Lack of exercise , lazyness, and comfortable life style.


-eating more sweets,sour and cold food items,Also heavy calorie diet and fried food increases kapha. So one should avoid eating more quantity of black gram, curd, seasum seeds, cheese, desserts,new jaggery,sweet fruits like banana,mango etc .In order to stop kapha aggravation.


3. Symptoms of imbalanced kapha

 

-heaviness and lustre in body organs.Also the coldness in skin and body may be stiff specially in morning.

-Inflammation,Itching.

-loss of appetite,Constipation,

too much sleep.

-sweetness in mouth,

-Whiteness/pale   skin and long term / chronic diseases occurrence.

Ayurvedic dosha


4. Remedies for balancing the kapha dosha.


- Avoid the diet and life style which aggravates kapha dosha(mentioned above in reasons),


-Eat more Bitter, astringent,spicy and dry nature/low calorie food items



-Drink lukewarm water whole day or at least in morning and before bed time.


-Use Honey in diet,it balances all three dosha, so good for vitiated kaha too.One can have honey with leukwarm water or milk.(avoide mixing honey in  hot food items)


-Take turmeric powder with hot milk or hot water in increased kapha dosha.


-Kapha related symptoms can be subsided by taking early morning one tea spoon of cows ghee with half tea spoon of black pepper and half tea spoon unrefined sugar(mishri)

then warm them on stove at low temperature.Just eat mixture at leuk warm temperature and do drink water till one hour.


-under panchakarma treatment, vaman karma(medicated purgation) is considered as best for vitiated  kapha dosha elimination from body.


-other measures like observing fast,rubbing/scrubbing the Body, fomentation, Walking, running, exercise etc.


-Useful Yogasanas and pranayam for kapha balancing like-

Pashchimottanasana,surya namaskar,

ushtrasan,janushirasan, padmasana, Aradha padmasana,trikonasana,noukasana,serpasana,chakrasana and Agnisara kriya, bhstrika and ujjayi,nadi shodhan pranayam etc are also  good exercise for kapha dosha Balancing.
